Did you ever wonder what kind of gear really works best? The stuff that comes with good instructions, the stuff that does what it says it will, the stuff that really makes the most difference for the least amount of money? So do we. We have to admit there are certain things we do not know. Actually, as an enthusiast, we predict you are the number one expert when it comes to certain things, and especially about your own car's performance. That's why we want to pick your brain.

As editors, it's true that we have an unusual amount of access to manufacturers, engineers and test facilities. Not to mention information supplied fresh from the tongues of some of the best PR men in the world. We're not nave, and we're not stupid, but we are constantly barraged with new products to investigate. More, frankly, than we can handle on our own.Then there is the fact that what works best on our Project Civic might not supply the exact same results on your Miata. That would be because no test procedure, no matter how well controlled, can guarantee universal levels of performance upgrades across dozens of different applications.

Another factor we have trouble measuring is cost. Cost varies from store to store, by region, and according to suppliers. As a result, magazine writers are not always the best sources about specific information when it comes to the actual cost of performance, and cost/benefit relationships. Our general sense of what things cost is nowhere near as specific as the pain you feel in your own wallet when you go for a major upgrade.
